# Avatar and voice

> Pick the face your callers see, the voice they hear, and how fast it speaks.

Set these on the editor's **Avatar & voice** tab.

## Avatar

Pick any avatar from the library. Each one suggests a voice: when you change the avatar, the voice changes to the new avatar's suggestion, unless you picked a voice yourself.

**Try them live** opens the **Avatars** page, where you can talk to each avatar for two minutes for free.

See every avatar, with its ID and suggested voice, on [Avatars](https://docs.talking-avatar.dev/realistic-avatars/avatars.md).

### Custom avatar

Once we've built your [custom avatar](https://docs.talking-avatar.dev/realistic-avatars/custom-avatars.md), enter its **avatar ID** (for example `acme-presenter`) in the **Custom avatar** field. IDs use letters, numbers, `-` and `_`, up to 64 characters.

## Voices

Voices come in two groups. Click a voice's play button to hear a sample, then click the voice to pick it. **View all** lists every voice in a group.

| Group | Speaks | Voices |
| - | - | - |
| **Multilingual** | Many languages | Alex, Ashley, Craig, Deborah, Dennis, Edward, Elizabeth, Julia, Mark, Olivia, Priya, Ronald, Sarah, Shaun, Theodore, Timothy, Wendy |
| **English** | English only | Adrian, Ethan, Hannah, Jordan, Laura, Selene |

> [!TIP]
>
> For callers who may speak other languages, pick a Multilingual voice and keep *Reply in the language they speak* in your prompt.

## Speaking speed

Drag **Speaking speed** from **0.50×** to **1.50×**. The default is **1.00×**. Some voices have a narrower range and use the closest speed they support.
